The endeavor, which actively transforms rubber waste into vibrant playgrounds for children, has recently garnered attention in a feature on Stuff, highlighting the innovative approach to repurposing rubber offcuts and old rubber matting.

Numat Group started this program to further its commitment to environmental sustainability and community support. Instead of viewing rubber waste as a problem, the initiative uses it as a way to benefit society.

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our customers and community.

Numat Group is taking a giant step towards sustainability by launching a new rubber recycling program at our Oamaru factory. This program allows us to recycle our own rubber waste as well as waste rubber from other local manufacturers and turn it into rubber granules that can be used in our playground surfaces.

To make this program a reality, we have invested in state-of-the-art equipment from Germany, a shredder and granulator system that will be installed next month. This will allow us to efficiently and effectively recycle rubber waste, addressing a problem that many recycling programs in New Zealand face: a lack of demand for the recycled materials.

Our rubber recycling program not only benefits the environment by reducing the amount of rubber waste in New Zealand by hundreds of tons each year, but it also aligns with our company values of integrity, innovation, and sustainability. Initially, the rubber material to be recycled will come from our agri matting division, with the recycled rubber granules being used by our play surfacing division.
